Sending mails without local mailclient (Outlook ...)

Patch 2604.0.1.0 on Appliance (Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS 2025 Edition)

At this time we are doing initial setup for the system.

I setup the Mail Server Settings. Maildelivery is working as aspected. But:

If I generate an “Offline Temporary Password” why is there a local mailclient needed ?

Why doesn’t the webapp use the configured mailserver in settings ?

We us an it-issue tracking system for out customers. Now I have to copy the generated OTP Informations in the ticktsystem and send it to out customer, even though all the necessary information is in the endpoint protector.

Hello.

There is no offline temporary password generation on the client (agent).

Only send request (with email) is possible.

Offline temporary passwords can only be generated from EPP server, and the generated password must be apply to client (agent).

It is said that related features and convenience will be improved next release of EPP server.

“Hello Jeremy,\n\nI’m not talking about the client either, but about the server—or rather the GUI. When I click the Send button in the server GUI, my local Outlook opens. I expect the email to be sent by the server.\n\nFor status emails, configured mail servers are used as well. So why wouldn’t that be the case for the email with which the applicant is notified by an admin?”

Hello.

EPP server does not have the function to send alarms or emails to users or computers.

There is function to send alarms for specific warnings/notice to EPP administrator rather than the user, but there is no function to transmit OTP passwords.

Netwrix says that OTP automation feature will be implemented in next version.

Hi Heiko, Jeremy,

Jeremy is right. OTP functionality is not handled as part of alerting. It was intentionally implemented as an “end-user” mailing option, since admins do not always configure a mail server in EPP.

I also wanted to share some exciting news. You may have already heard this during the webinar, but we are working on OTP automation. This feature will allow automatic OTP requests and responses through the EPP Client-to-Server communication channel, providing an alternative to the current email-based option.

At the same time, the email option remains highly requested by some customers, so it is still important to support that scenario.
