Support for Oracle Linux Installation File

What is a one sentence summary of your feature request?

Support for Oracle Linux Installation File

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

We have tested the installation using the Red Hat installation file and confirmed that it works successfully on Oracle Linux. However, we noticed that the system reports itself to the EPP server as Red Hat instead of Oracle Linux.

To ensure accurate reporting and system identification, we kindly recommend creating a dedicated installation file specifically for Oracle Linux.

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

Currently, we are using the RHEL agent installation file to install on Oracle Linux systems.

Hello Phuong,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Endpoint Protector!

After carefully reviewing your request, we’re pleased to inform you that we’ve decided to move forward with improvements in this area to ensure proper reporting for both Linux Origin and Linux Custom.

We appreciate your contribution and encourage you to stay tuned for updates as we make progress.

Kind Regards,
Simona

Hi Simona

If possible, would it be feasible to provide a dedicated installation file for Oracle Linux, instead of using the same one as for RHEL?

Kind regards,
Phuong

Hello Phuong,

Thank you for reaching out with your question.

At this time, since the currently deployed EPP client is functioning as expected, we do not plan to develop a dedicated installation package specifically for Oracle Linux. However, we understand the importance of accurate and consistent reporting, and we will continue focusing our efforts on enhancing this area to ensure optimal performance and visibility across supported environments.

We truly appreciate your input and will keep your request in mind as we evaluate future improvements.

All the best,
Simona

Hello Simona,

Could you please check with your team and confirm whether Oracle Linux supports the full capabilities of RHEL when using the same installation file?
Additionally, please confirm that we will receive technical support from your team for any issues on Oracle Linux that may arise.

Thank you,

Phuong

Hi Phuong,

Thank you for your question.

While we are not currently conducting official testing of the RHEL EPP Client against Oracle Linux, it is our understanding that the client should operate reliably in that environment.

If you encounter any unexpected behavior or have questions during the process, our Support Team is here to help. They’re fully equipped to provide guidance and help troubleshooting in the case of an eventual issue. Your feedback is always valuable to us, so please don’t hesitate to share your observations.

As a best practice, we strongly recommend deploying the EPP Client in a staging or test environment first. This will help ensure that all expected use cases are fully supported and that your business processes remain stable before considering a broader rollout to production.

We appreciate your proactive approach and remain at your disposal for any further guidance.

Kind Regards,
Simona
