Indicating the license status during startup

What is a one sentence summary of your feature request?

Automatic indication of license status in PingCastle

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

There is command line flag --debug-license which needs to be added manually and will provide indication of license status in Ping Castle i.e. if it’s detected correctly, expired etc.

However this could be a possibly default automatic option added to PingCastle to make it easier for users to understand why their PingCastle may not work as expected.

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

Manual diagnostics and .config, .json files checks for missing license argument.

For context, I initially raised this as a support ticket.

I recently had done a copy-paste error in the license string and only found out that the license wasn’t detected correctly after I had scanned the customer environment.

I think it would be helpful if PingCastle indicated licensing status clearly in the main GUI before starting any scans. Just a small text output (unlicensed, license parsing error, licensed to ), similar to the “support until” text that indicates old binaries.

Thanks for the feedback Phil. I will see if we can make this a bit simpler. We do have some stuff but it is probably a little too subtle! I think the licensed to and expiration makes sense to include.

I will see what we can figure out in future releases
