What is a one sentence summary of your feature request?
A configuration of the root organisational unit is needed.
Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.
A configuration of the root organisational unit is needed. So it is not allowed to create an OU under root OU, if the user has the user right to create OU (in general, to create OUs in another subtree inside the organisational structure).
How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?
This option would require users to create sub-OUs under the user’s OU, as currently users can only create their own (private) OU structure at root level.
My work around is to only allow certain users to add OUs or add them manually as administrator. Both is not ideal.
The problem with custom OUs for users is, that they’re not aware of difficulties concerning access rights on OUs and datasets placed in them, shared and personal datasets and so on - it is not really intuitive. Also… those manually placed OUs are not visible to the administrator and therefore not exportable via centralized emergency export and so on.
A feasible solution would be a private OU structure, where users cannot share datasets with others.
