Cumulative Upgrade Patch Overview

We are pleased to announce the availability of a cumulative offline upgrade patch designed for customers who, for various reasons, are operating on historical versions of the EPP Server, ranging from version 5.7.0.0 to 5.9.4.1. This patch facilitates a seamless upgrade to the latest version of the EPP Server Environment.

Intended Recipients

This update is for EPP Server customers currently running their EPP environment on the following versions:

  • 5.7.0.0
  • 5.7.1.0
  • 5.8.0.0
  • 5.8.1.0
  • 5.9.0.0
  • 5.9.1.0
  • 5.9.2.0
  • 5.9.3.0
  • 5.9.4.0
  • 5.9.4.1

These customers can now execute a single upgrade operation to access the latest EPP Server features, security fixes, improvements and changes in one upgrade batch.

Included in This Release

  • All updates, fixes, and new features introduced between versions 5.7.0.0 and 5.9.4.2.
  • The latest release of the Enforced Encryption (formerly Easy Lock) Client

Offline Client Patch

This cumulative server patch does not include updates for EPP Clients. For those, please use the separate offline EPP Client patch or direct installer links for Windows and MacOS.

Please remember to create a backup or snapshot of your virtual machine before proceeding with the upgrade to ensure you can recover in case of failure.

Please be aware that during the upgrade process, EPP/EE Client communication with the server will not take place, and email alerts or SIEM communications will not be sent.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I’m already on EPP 5.9.4.2 version, should I apply this patch?

Customers already running the EPP Server version 5.9.4.2 can safely ignore this patch and announcement.

I'm on EPP 5.9.4.1 version. Which patch should I choose?

If you are on version 5.9.4.1, you can choose between the regular 5.9.4.2 patch or this cumulative one. The regular 5.9.4.2 offline patch offers a smaller file size for easier download and deployment on the EPP Server (link to regular patch).

On which Ubuntu based image versions can I use this patch?

This patch has been validated for use on Ubuntu 18 and Ubuntu 22-based images.

How many offline patches do I need to update to the latest version of EPP?

You will need to apply two offline patches: one for the EPP Server cumulative update and a second for the EPP offline Client patch.

How can I upgrade EPP Clients?

You can use the 5.9.4.1 Offline Client patch, which contains only the EPP Client installers, or deploy the provided separate MSI or TAR files through your third-party software management system.

Do I need to deploy new EPP or EE Clients?

We strongly recommend upgrading the EPP and EE Clients as well to fully benefit from the enhanced functionality provided by the latest EPP versions.

How do I apply the cumulative patch?

The cumulative patch follows the regular offline patch format. Please follow the regular patching method as detailed in the User Manual: User Manual.

How long will the patching process take?

The duration varies depending on your appliance’s performance, number of CPUs, RAM, disk and network speed, and the version being upgraded. Based on internal lab performance tests, the process typically takes between 15-60 minutes.
However, please note that after the upgrade, appliances may experience higher resource usage (CPU, RAM, disk, network) depending on the number of policies and connected clients. This increase is due to the recalibration and distribution of the EPP Client settings across endpoints.

What should I do if my patch fails?

If you encounter a patch failure, please contact our support team for assistance in gathering log details to diagnose the issue. Consider restoring from a snapshot to revert changes.

Are there any recommended actions after upgrading the EPP?

For environments hosted on-premises or on customer-managed clouds, we recommend applying Security backend fixes (backend components). Please refer to the User Manual for detailed instructions. These security upgrades are crucial not only for enhancing security but also for enabling backend configuration functionalities, such as setting IP addresses.

I’m a Netwrix-hosted customer. Can I use this patch?

Yes, the patch is an Offline Patch that can be applied easily across various image types, including on-premises, customer cloud-hosted, and Netwrix hosted environments. However, we strongly recommend aligning this update with your Change Management plan and ensuring that you have environment snapshots or backups in place prior to applying the patch.

Known Limitations

  • EE Client Upgrade: In rare instances, the automated upgrade of the EE Client may not succeed. If this issue arises, we recommend manually replacing the EE Client. If the issue persists, please also reinstall the EPP Client on the affected workstation.

  • EPP Client Upgrade on Windows: In extremely rare cases, upgrading an older EPP Client on Windows machines may trigger a blue screen error. Should this occur, we recommend removing the existing EPP Client and deploying a fresh instance as an alternative solution.

  • Regular EPP 5.9.4.2 known limitations apply as well, please refer to the latest Release notes.
