Add South Korean standard document formats (.hwp, .hwpx) to the file type categories for Content Aware Protection policies.

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

Problem:
In South Korea, virtually all public institutions, government agencies, and many enterprise organizations use Hancom Office document formats (.hwp and .hwpx) as their standard for official files and templates. Currently, Netwrix Endpoint Protector does not adequately classify these Korean standard document types under pre-defined file categories in Content Aware Protection, making it difficult to enforce precise DLP policies for regional compliance.

Proposed Solution:
Add .hwp and .hwpx file extensions and their corresponding MIME/binary file signatures to the built-in document file type categories in EPP.

This will allow administrators operating in South Korea (or working with Korean partners) to easily monitor, inspect, and block unauthorized transfers of sensitive local government and corporate documents.

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

Currently, administrators must manually create custom file extension rules or complex pattern definitions for .hwp and .hwpx files. This manual setup is prone to omissions, lacks native file-signature inspection, and creates unnecessary administrative overhead during policy deployment in Korean enterprise environments.

Thank you for the well-researched request and for including the official specification references — that’s genuinely helpful.

The case for adding HWP and HWPX to the built-in file type categories is clear. These are the de facto standard document formats for public institutions and enterprise organizations in South Korea, and requiring administrators to manually configure custom rules for what is effectively a regional compliance baseline creates unnecessary overhead and margin for error.

We’re actively looking at expanding regional file type coverage in Content Aware Protection, and South Korean document formats are on our radar as part of that. We can’t commit to a specific release timeline yet, but this is the kind of well-grounded request that carries weight in those discussions.
