Suggest most active members of groups to be owners instead of someone outside the group.
Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.
Instead of having the owner/manager recommendations go to someone outside the group, we want the owner recommendations to be active members within the group. Are we able to create a policy or customize the current Suggest Owner/Manager option?
How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

The behaviour you’re describing is a known characteristic of how the current suggestion algorithm works: it looks at the organisational managers of group members rather than the members themselves. For groups that follow org-chart boundaries that can work well, but for project groups,
cross-functional teams, or anything that doesn’t map neatly to a management hierarchy, the
results are often exactly what you’re seeing, suggested owners who have no real relationship
with the group’s purpose.
This is something we are actively thinking about. We’re looking at ways to make group ownership
suggestions more intelligent, including drawing candidates from within the group membership
itself rather than just from the wider org structure. I don’t want to overcommit on timing, but I
can tell you this sits within a broader set of ownership and accountability improvements we’re
working through, it’s not something we are ignoring.
If you haven’t already, might I suggest that it’s worth logging this through support as well so we can tie your specific environment context to the work when it progresses.
