In the instructions for upgrading an NPS HA pair, it mentions running the NPS HA Config Tool to failover to the secondary node before updating it:
The instructions seem to point to using the NPS.HaMgr.exe that comes with the upgrade installer (25.06.30001). However, when I run that version of the HA Mgr, it does not show the HA replication status properly, it appears to be stuck in a constant refresh of the current state.
If I run the NPS.HaMgr.exe for the currently installed version (4.2.1534), the HA status is reported correctly and active.
Should I be using the “old” version or the “new” version of the HA Mgr tool for the upgrade process?
The NPS HA Config tool is updated along with the rest of the software and is not necessarily 100% compatible with any future version. For that reason it is necessary to use the one that came with the currently installed version of NPS to fail over to the secondary and start the update process.
This is also why we recommend copying this file somewhere withing the installed directory (my personal recommendation is %ProgramData%\Stealthbits), just in case the initial ZIP download is no longer available. Once upgraded, replace the old version with the new and use that going forward.
