Problems with Excel

Hello,
We are experiencing a possible compatibility issue between Microsoft Excel (Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise) and Netwrix Endpoint Protector.

Observed behavior:

  • Pressing CTRL+C or using Copy in Excel immediately clears the active copy state.
  • The Undo history becomes unavailable after the copy operation.
  • The Excel window briefly refreshes/flashes.
  • The “Insert Copied Cells” command disappears or becomes unavailable.
  • The animated copy border (“marching ants”) disappears almost immediately after copying.
  • Similar behavior is observed when using CTRL+V.

Environment:

  • Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise
  • Windows 10 and Windows 11
  • Netwrix Endpoint Protector installed

Troubleshooting performed:

  • Office Quick Repair
  • Office Online Repair
  • Excel Safe Mode
  • Excel Add-ins review
  • No Excel customization or policy changes identified

We have evidence suggesting that the issue may be related to the Endpoint Protector client because the problem affects clipboard operations and appears immediately after the clipboard is processed.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Whether this is a known issue.
  2. Whether specific Endpoint Protector versions are affected.
  3. Whether any Clipboard Monitoring, Content Aware Protection or DLP policy could cause Excel to lose its active copy state.
  4. Whether there are known fixes, hotfixes or recommended client versions.
(last update we have uninstalled the DLP and without all works)
    Thank you.

Hi Mario,

Based in the description the behaviour is consistent with having a Clipboard policy applied to Excel. Can you please review all your Content Aware Protection policies and disable the Clipboard controls then try again?

Thank you,

Zoran

Hi Mario,

In addition to Zoran’s recommendations, please ensure that you are using the latest EPP Client version, currently 2605 hotfix 1.

If you still observe inconsistent behavior after disabling clipboard operations, please collect DEBUG logs and raise a Netwrix Support case.

You can use the following KB article if you need guidance on how to enable debug logs:

Hello i found a policy with clipboard activated.

Disabled this feature the problems, we fixed.

Thanks for help.

I ask you, i don’t know because this feature was enabled but this settings was wrong?
Thanks
Mario

Hi Mario,

Happy to hear that disabling the Clipboard controls fixed the excel issue.

I wouldn’t say the configuration was necessarily wrong. There are certain situations where customers want to block copy/paste even within local applications. However, this is a very intrusive control and best practice is to leave it turned off.

Zoran

Ok clear, thanks
Mario
