Printing control in Endpoint protector for printer shared by SMB

Hi all

We configured the policy control sensitive information cannot be printed, but we found that the restriction can only be enforced in printer connected locally say USB or direct IP connect to a network printer. The restriction cannot be enforced to printed shared by SMB or print to PDF.

Anyone one tried to control printing documents with sensitive information in the printer shard by SMB or driver like print to PDF? Or this is expected behavior?

Hi Alex,

We were able to test an SMB-shared printer on macOS and confirm that content inspection was performed successfully, the CAP policy blocked the print job as expected.

I don’t currently have a Windows setup to replicate the same test, but the expectation is that the behavior should be consistent on Windows as well.

Regarding Microsoft Print to PDF, the Endpoint Protector agent for Windows can perform content inspection on these actions. To ensure this works properly, please verify the required configuration under:

On macOS, content inspection is not performed for the native “Save as PDF” option.

If your results differ from the above, please open a support ticket and our engineering team will investigate further.

Thank you,

Zoran
