Option to skip unaccessible SharePoint Online sites

What is a one sentence summary of your feature request?

There should be options in the Data Source settings for SharePoint Online that allow you to skip inaccessible sites.

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

Starting in January 2025, Microsoft began enforcing a policy whereby unlicensed OneDrive accounts are automatically archived after 93 days. Once a site collection enters the FullyArchived state, it becomes completely inaccessible — not just to end users, but to administrative tools as well. As a result, when Netwrix Auditor’s SharePoint Online collector attempts to collect State-in-Time data from one of these site collections, it fails with an access error and the affected Monitoring Plan is flagged with a “Take Action” status.

Currently, the only workarounds are to manually add the affected sites to the OmitScSiteList.txt file, or to leave the errors and warnings in place. In larger environments, the omit file can grow to dozens or even hundreds of entries, making ongoing maintenance impractical. Leaving errors and warnings unaddressed creates its own risk — legitimate issues can easily be overlooked when noise from archived sites is constantly present.

The proposed solution would add an option under Edit Data Source that controls how Auditor handles these inaccessible sites. Specifically, two settings would be offered: one to ignore sites in a Fully Archived state, and one to ignore sites with a No Access lock. These would function as independent toggles, giving administrators the flexibility to choose which conditions to skip.

Placing these controls in the Data Source settings ensures that the behavior is configurable per data source, allowing customers who want to review these sites manually to continue receiving alerts, while those who prefer a cleaner monitoring experience can suppress the noise without needing to maintain a separate omit file.

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

The current workaround is to omit the sites via the OmitScSiteList.txt file.

Hi,

Thank you for raising this and great news: this improvement is already in progress on our side. We’re working on adding the ability for Netwrix Auditor to gracefully skip inaccessible SharePoint Online sites during scans rather than interrupting the process.

We’ll share more details once this is available. Stay tuned for the release notes.

Best regards, Aleksander
