Enterprise Auditor and Azure Files

Hi All,

Has anyone attempted to use Enterprise Auditor to scan & monitor Azure Files?
Our company is considering moving available on-prem department file shares to Azure Files - or at very least, archive data up there.

We gave it a quick try with one of our other file scan tools last year, but the results were less than desireable.

Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick and welcome to Netwrix community!

This is a great question and perfect timing! Support for scanning Azure Files is coming in the very next release of Netwrix Enterprise Auditor, which goes GA tomorrow. This version adds the ability to collect permissions and identify sensitive data in Azure Files.
We’ll share the release notes and documentation link here as soon as it’s live, so stay tuned!
It’s also worth noting that monitoring user activity in Azure Files is on our roadmap and will follow shortly after. We’ll keep you posted as that rolls out.

Hi Tatiana,

I forgot to ask. Will the Azure Files feature require additional licensing or will it be part of the base package?

Thank you,
Rick

Hi Rick,

Version 12.0 has officially been released! You can find the release notes and download link here.

To answer your question, scanning Azure Files for sensitive data and permissions is included in the File System SKU. This also includes visibility into Azure role permissions as they pertain to granting access to Azure Files.

That said, additional and more specific reporting on Azure Roles and Entra ID data is included as part of the Active Directory license.

Glad to hear you’re planning to test it out, this release should be a great fit for your use case!

Best,
Tatiana
