Automatic deletion of audit log backups

What is a one sentence summary of your feature request?

Automatically delete audit log backups after an defined period of time

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

Our data protection audits have revealed that while the logs are deleted from the server, the backups remain stored locally and are not automatically deleted after an specific amount of time.

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

I have to manually delete the backups every three months, remember to do it, and set reminders. That’s quite a hassle, and in my opinion, it needs to be changed.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the clear description — this is a valid data governance concern and we appreciate you raising it.

EPP currently includes a log rotation mechanism that can automatically remove logs based on disk space thresholds, configurable under System Policy. However, this is triggered by disk usage rather than a defined retention period, so it doesn’t directly address your use case of automatically expiring audit log backups after a set number of days.

This is a gap we recognise and your request has been noted for future consideration.

In the meantime, the most practical workaround remains the manual deletion you’re already doing — we’d suggest pairing it with the existing backup scheduler settings (configurable under the backup configuration section) to control how frequently backups are created and what log age they cover, which can at least help limit accumulation between manual cleanups.

Thank you for the patience and for flagging this.
