Product Enhancement Request: Preview Dynasty Membership before final creation

What is a one sentence summary of your feature request?

Preview Dynasty Membership during Creation - similar to Smart Group - Preview Members

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

Current Experience
When creating a new Dynasty, administrators configure the Dynasty settings and rules, but there is no way to preview the resulting group membership hierarchy that will be generated from those settings. The nested groups that become members of the Dynasty are only visible after creation.
In contrast, when creating a Smart Group, administrators have the ability to preview group membership before saving, allowing them to validate that the configuration will produce the expected results.

Requested Enhancement
Provide a Preview Membership option within the Create New Dynasty wizard that displays:
• The nested groups that will be created based on the Dynasty configuration.
• The parent-child hierarchy of the resulting groups.
• The groups that will ultimately become members of the Dynasty.
• A count of groups and (optionally) users that will be included through the nested structure.
This preview should function similarly to the existing membership preview available when creating a Smart Group.

Business Value
This enhancement would:
• Improve administrator confidence before committing changes.
• Reduce configuration errors and rework.
• Provide visibility into complex nested group relationships.
• Simplify troubleshooting and validation during Dynasty design.
• Create a more consistent user experience between Smart Group and Dynasty creation workflows.

Example Use Case
As an administrator creating a new Dynasty, I want to preview the nested groups that will be generated from my Dynasty configuration so that I can verify the resulting hierarchy and membership before creating the Dynasty.

Acceptance Criteria
1. A Preview Membership button is available during Dynasty creation.
2. The preview displays all nested groups that will be created and associated with the Dynasty.
3. The preview can be refreshed after configuration changes.
4. The displayed structure accurately reflects the final Dynasty membership hierarchy.
5. The experience is consistent with the existing Smart Group membership preview functionality.

Suggested UI Text
Preview Dynasty Membership
View the nested groups and resulting hierarchy that will be created based on the current Dynasty configuration before saving.

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

Full Dynasty has to be created before you are able to see if the nested groups are formatted and created correctly. If incorrect, you have to redo the entire dynasty and have a bunch of groups created that aren’t valid and have to be cleaned up.

Hi Anne,

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I think this is the first product suggestion you’ve sent my way, so I really appreciate you taking the time to write it up in this much detail. And let me personally welcome you to the NDM community.

The comparison to the Smart Group membership preview makes perfect sense, and you’ve laid out the acceptance criteria clearly enough that we’d have a solid starting point if and when we decide to take it forward.

I don’t have a timeline I can share for this at the moment, so I don’t want to set an expectation I can’t back up. That said, I do think the underlying problem is real. Having to fully create a Dynasty, discover the nesting isn’t quite right, and then clean up a batch of groups afterwards is a genuine usability gap, especially when we’ve already solved the equivalent problem for Smart Groups.

I’ll make sure this gets captured in the backlog so it stays visible as we plan future work.

And please keep the suggestions coming. This is exactly the sort of feedback that’s useful because it comes from someone using the product day to day, and having the problem and the proposed behaviour written down makes it much easier to evaluate later.

Thanks again,

Dave
