PolicyPak Cloud: Client v26.9.4752 Suspended & Further Steps

Hello, PolicyPak Cloud users,

We would like to notify you that because of several issues identified in v26.9.4752 on endpoints with multiple .NET versions installed, we have decided to tentatively withdraw that version from public use until a full investigation and bugfixing have been conducted. The download links available at the Cloud Portal now once again trigger downloading of the previous release, v26.7.4696. The policies which you have set under v26.9.4752 will continue to work under v26.7.4696.

At the same time, we would like to offer a workaround for users struggling with the .NET compatibility issues stemming from installing PolicyPak Cloud Client v26.9.4752 (note that this issue may occur immediately during installation, regardless of whether you have set any of your group policies to v26.9.4752 or not). The issue is caused by the DOTNET_ROOT_X64 environmental variable being set to C:\Program Files\PolicyPak\Cloud\dotnet and the way to mitigate it is to revert it to the default path, namely C:\Program Files\dotnet. You can accomplish that by deploying the following script:

[Environment]::SetEnvironmentVariable("DOTNET_ROOT_X64", "C:\Program Files\dotnet", "Machine")
$env:DOTNET_ROOT_X64 = "C:\Program Files\dotnet"

$installDir = $env:DOTNET_ROOT_X64

$scriptPath = Join-Path $env:TEMP "dotnet-install.ps1"
Invoke-WebRequest -Uri "https://dot.net/v1/dotnet-install.ps1" -OutFile $scriptPath

& $scriptPath -Channel 10.0 -Runtime dotnet -Architecture x64 -InstallDir $installDir
& $scriptPath -Channel 10.0 -Runtime aspnetcore -Architecture x64 -InstallDir $installDir

& "$installDir\dotnet.exe" --list-runtimes
