NTP Upgrade - 7.5 to 8

We will be upgrading from v7.5 to v8 in the coming weeks and I was looking for some guidance regarding a backout process. If we need to go back to 7.5 for some reason, can we simply reinstall the 7.5 software or does the upgrade to v8 create SQL changes that does not allow that? If that’s the case, I assume we should perform a full SQL backup prior to our upgrade, correct?

Thanks

Hey Art,

There are no SQL changes between 7.5 and 8.0 that would cause an issue with rolling back to 7.5 if for some reason that was required. Rolling back your NTP server, assuming it is not also hosting the database, or uninstalling 8.0 and reinstalling the latest 7.5 would be fine.

Kevin, this is great news! If I’m understanding what you are saying here, is that if we upgrade from 7.5.x to 8.0.x, and there is an issue with the upgrade installation. We can just uninstall version 8, and reinstall version 7.5.x without having to fully restore the Database back to 7.5.x as well? This is new, and will help with my upgrades moving forward.

Hey Jay,

This is possible from 7.5 to 8.0 because we did not make any major schema changes that would break NTP if you had to rollback to 7.5. This is not always going to be true going forward, so as long as you double-check if anything was mentioned in release notes or make a community post asking if any breaking changes were made prior to your upgrade process you should be okay.
