How to Create a Show & Tell

So you have something cool you want to show off in the community? Let’s post it! Think of the Show & Tell category as an area where you can share something unique that you did with the product or a resource that you created! If you find yourself constantly sharing the same process or guide over and over, it sounds perfect for a Show & Tell!

What is a Show & Tell?

We ask that the Show & Tell be more on the technical side of things. Really get into the weeds of the solution—include code snippets, screenshots, videos, reference docs, etc! These should not just be a quick paragraph with a line of code or some hidden checkbox that people often forget about. Describe the problem—describe the solution! Think of the adage: Don’t give them fish, teach them how to fish. We want readers to leave this Show & Tell knowing why the solution worked.

How do you make one?

  1. Find the right Show & Tell category
  1. Select + New Show & Tell
  2. And now that the text editor is up, let the show & tell magic happen! :magic_wand:

Enter an enticing but accurate topic

Think of the title as a marketing headline that should to catch a reader’s attention. If you know the content ahead of time, go ahead and make a title. Sometimes, though, it’s easier to create a title after you’ve written the content.

:double_exclamation_mark: Don’t worry, you won’t be able to submit a topic without a title.

Select appropriate tags

The search function will catch keywords in your Show & Tell, but tags will also help boost findability. Tags should only be a few words, but try capturing the problem, tools, or solution that are your Show & Tell addresses.

Write the content

The general gist should be:

  1. Overview: Here is a problem that people often face
  2. Description: Here is my solution and why/how it works

As noted above, we encourage you to roll your sleeves up and get technical—I assure you that’s what others in the community want to see! Share the code or include screenshots along the way. While writing, remember that the reader may be unfamiliar with this area, so be a little more thorough or descriptive.

Set it as your Featured Topic

If you’re extra proud of your Show & Tell, you should set it as the Feature Topic on your profile! That way, if someone is browsing your profile, they’ll see what you made!

  1. First, navigate to your profile settings
  2. Scroll down to the Featured Topic section, and click Select a New Topic
  3. In the pop-up, paste the URL to your Show & Tell (or search for the title if you don’t have the URL handy)
  4. Hit Save
  5. At the bottom of the page, hit Save Changes

And just like that, your Show & Tell is now a headliner on your profile page! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
