Guided Policy Setup Wizard and Best-Practice Templates for New Endpoint Protector Deployments

Which aspect of EPP are you submitting for?

Endpoint Protector Server

What is a one sentence summary of your feature request?

Provide a step-by-step Policy Setup Wizard and default recommended templates to help new administrators quickly establish baseline DLP policies.

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

When new organizations deploy Netwrix Endpoint Protector, administrators often struggle to set up initial policies from scratch due to a lack of baseline guidelines. Configuring Device Control and Content Aware Protection policies without prior experience creates a steep learning curve and increases the risk of misconfiguration—potentially blocking legitimate business operations or leaving security gaps.

To address this, we propose an interactive “Policy Setup Wizard” and pre-configured “Best-Practice Templates”:

  1. Interactive Step-by-Step Policy Wizard:
  • Guides administrators through a questionnaire regarding their organization type, compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS), and desired security levels.
  • Automatically generates tailored baseline policies based on the selected criteria.
  1. Out-of-the-Box Recommended Templates:
  • Provides standard policy baselines (e.g., “Standard Enterprise Baseline”, “Strict Financial Data Protection”, “Read-Only USB Policy”).
  • Enables administrators to apply recommended security baselines with a single click during initial onboarding.

This approach significantly speeds up initial implementation, reduces the risk of human error, and helps new users achieve immediate time-to-value.

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

Currently, administrators must manually research compliance guidelines and build every policy from scratch through trial and error. Alternatively, organizations rely heavily on external technical support or professional services consultants to guide the initial setup, which delays deployment timelines and increases operational overhead.

Hi,

Thank you for the detailed proposal. The onboarding challenge you’re describing is something we have been made aware of before. Starting from a blank canvas with no baseline guidance is one of the steeper parts of an initial EPP deployment and the risk of misconfiguration during that phase is real.

Policy setup and management is an area we’re actively looking to improve. We’re exploring options that would make it easier to configure policies quickly (including more guided and template-driven approaches) as part of upcoming work on the product experience. We can’t share specifics yet, but the direction you’re pointing to is one we’re already thinking about.

We’ve logged the request and will keep this thread updated as things develop.
