Exchange Online - Ignore Distribution List Objects

What is a one sentence summary of your feature request?

Have NDC ignore Exchange objects that do not have a mailbox instead of generating an error.

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

I am receiving an error in my Exchange Online source for every Exchange object that does not have a mailbox associated to it, specifically distribution lists.

I suggest that the application just ignore those objects instead of reporting an error, as there is nothing to be done about it. It will prevent the system from being cluttered with errors and it will prevent the user from having to review the errors daily to ensure there is not a real issue. This unnecessarily consumes time.

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

Either pause all of the failed items or add them to the exclude list. We currently have 127 objects that fall under this category and we have to remember to update NDC for each new one we add. This is a pain-point.

Upload any supporting images that you think should be considered in this idea.

UPDATE

Adding the items to the Exclude List does not work because it tries to connect to each object in the tenant before evaluating the Exclude List. Attempting to read the DL object is what generated the errors.

Hi @mscirri , thanks for your input. We did an initial research and it looks like there’s a way to address this in the product, so that it would only attempt to scan mailboxes. I’m moving this to planned, but I don’t know an ETA yet.

That is fantastic news. That will be a huge relief and make management of that source type sooooooooo much easier.
