Automatic or Self-Service Updates Without Admin Rights for Desktop App

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

Hello,

As you may know, many updates result in the desktop client becoming incompatible with the newer server version (see screenshot). This means the app can no longer be used immediately after a server update.

As described in other forum post, we have implemented automatic updates via GPO.
Unfortunately, this patch management method may require up to two restarts before the program is fully updated, and there is no feedback to the admins indicating whether the installation was successful.

In our company, with “only” around 70 licenses, this often leads to frustration and increased IT support requests following updates.

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

Our feature request is therefore for automatic or self-service updates that can be initiated by the user without requiring admin credentials—similar to how Zoom handles updates.

We’ve noticed that “Netwrix Password Secure” already includes a global user setting called “Can check for updates.” From our perspective, it would be ideal if users could also perform the update themselves when this setting is enabled.

Thank you in advance!
