Multiple Clients Creating Duplictaes in PolicyPak

Hi,

In our PolicyPak portal, we have both local Windows 11 clients and AVD VMs registering. Our local W11 clients connect via GlobalProtect VPN.

We’ve been seeing an issue where multiple clients , mainly W11 machines are creating duplicate entries. This week we’re planning to turn on the “Ignore pre-defined MAC addresses” option in PolicyPak to stop these duplicates. I believe they’re being caused by machines being re-imaged with the same name, but I can’t say that with 100% certainty.

Has anyone dealt with a similar setup? Should we be using strict, loose, or advanced registration mode?

Our goal is to:

  • Stop duplicates from appearing
  • Allow re-imaged machines (W11 or AVD VMs) with the same name to register cleanly
  • Have the older/stale client entries automatically drop off or get removed

Hope this makes sense — happy to clarify further if needed.

Hi Louis,

Thanks for your inquiry.

Each of the registration modes treat “new” endpoints slightly differently. Given your scenario, it seems “Strict” is the registration method to choose with “Ignore pre-defined MAC addresses” checked and the those common/duplicated MAC address added to the list.

With the common MAC addresses updated in the “Ignore MAC addresses list”, the system should essentially add the new computer and delete the old one, treating it like a brand new endpoint, not rebuild of a previous one.

This should get you where you need to go. However, if you are still having issues, please open a support ticket to continue troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Thanks John, we are planning to turn this on thursday evening. We have seen a huge uptick in duplications suddenlly appearing in our portal. Further investigation these machines have not been reimaged, but suddenlly policy stops applying and we have to re push the policypak install.

Any idea why we are seeing a huge uptick in duplications?
