Block Personal AI Accounts on Corporate Devices While Allowing Organization Accounts

Which aspect of EPP are you submitting for?

Endpoint Protector Client

What is a one sentence summary of your feature request?

Add capability to distinguish and block personal AI accounts (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) on managed corporate devices while permitting organization-managed accounts—similar to the existing Google account controls already available in Netwrix EPP and Windows GPO.

Please describe your idea in detail. What is your problem, why do you feel this idea is the best solution, etc.

The Problem:
We use Claude Team and ChatGPT Business within our organization for business operations. However, employees can still log into their personal AI accounts on company-managed devices, which creates significant security and compliance risks:

  • Data Leakage: Sensitive company information (designs, code, specifications) can be uploaded to personal accounts outside corporate governance
  • IP Protection: Intellectual property and confidential technical data are not protected when using personal accounts
  • Compliance Violations: Our security policy requires all company data to remain within organization-managed accounts
  • Audit Trail: Personal accounts are not subject to organizational logging and compliance audits

Why This Solution:
Most enterprise security tools can block entire domains, but that also blocks legitimate organization accounts. What’s needed is account-level differentiation:

  • Allow: Organization accounts
  • Block: Personal accounts

Precedent Already Exists in Netwrix:
Netwrix EPP already provides this control for Google accounts:

  • Distinguishes between corporate Google accounts and personal Google accounts
  • Blocks personal Google account access while allowing organization accounts

This same capability is needed for AI platforms (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.).

AI Vendors Are Shifting Responsibility to EPP:
When we inquired with Anthropic about blocking personal Claude accounts on Team plans, they stated: “Tenant Restrictions and account-level blocking are only available in Enterprise plans. For Team plans, you must implement controls at the network/endpoint level.”

This means AI vendors are expecting endpoint protection platforms to handle this—exactly as Netwrix already does for Google accounts.

Why Netwrix EPP Should Extend This to AI Platforms:
Since Netwrix EPP already has the architecture and capability to distinguish account types (proven with Google), extending this to Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI platforms would:

  • Apply existing technology to emerging security needs
  • Provide feature parity across all SaaS platforms (Google, AI vendors, etc.)
  • Close the compliance gap that AI vendors intentionally leave for non-Enterprise customers

How do you currently solve the challenges you have by not having this feature?

  1. Policy-Based Enforcement Only
  • Written policy prohibiting personal account use
  • Relies on user compliance (not reliable)
  • No technical enforcement
  1. Network-Level Blocking
  • Proxy rules to block entire claude.ai or chatgpt.com domains
  • Problem: Also blocks organization accounts
  • Not viable for organizations that need to use these tools
  1. Manual Monitoring
  • IT team reviews proxy logs to detect personal account usage
  • Time-consuming and reactive, not preventive
  • Difficult to distinguish account types in logs
  1. Upgrade to Enterprise Plans
  • Anthropic Claude: Pay significantly more for Enterprise plan to get Tenant Restrictions
  • Not cost-effective for organizations that only need Team collaboration features
  • Vendors are monetizing what should be basic security controls

The Gap:
Netwrix EPP already solves this for Google accounts. The same technology and architecture should be extended to AI platforms. Organizations should not have to choose between:

  • Blocking all AI access (defeating the purpose)
  • Paying premium enterprise prices just for account-level controls
  • Accepting data leakage risk from personal accounts

I would love to see this feature, we are facing the same challenges as a company.

I noticed you mentioned "Distinguishes between corporate Google accounts and personal Google accounts

  • Blocks personal Google account access while allowing organization accounts"

Does this require to have the DPI enabled ?

Yes, distinguishing between corporate and personal Google accounts requires DPI to be enabled.

According to the document above, ChatGPT Business accounts are issued a Workspace ID, so it appears feasible to implement a policy that permits only that specific Workspace ID.
